ANNOUNCEMENTS

12th Büchi NIR Meeting in September with Top Speakers from Overseas and Japan

Büchi Labortechnik Specialist Symposium in Basel Goes International for the First Time

The 12th NIR Meeting organized by Büchi Labortechnik AG on September 17 and 18, 2002 will for the first time be held in an international context. The emphasis of the subjects to be discussed at this prestigious event will be on food analysis, applications in the pharmaceutical industry, and on-line solutions. Renowned speakers, including specialists from the USA and Japan, will present their NIR technology expertise to the roughly 100 participants from the user as well as the research perspective. They will thereby make a valuable contribution to the exchange of know-how among the global NIR specialist community.

One of the highlights of the event will be the presentation of the Büchi NIR Award, which carries a 5000 US dollar prize. The Büchi company is awarding it for the second time now. The winner, who will be elected by a panel of judges before the end of August, will present his or her award-winning work in a speech.

The talks will be held in English or German, with simultaneous interpreting services being available. The Meeting will be held in the “Messe Basel” exhibition center of Basel, Switzerland.

Up-to-the-minute program information is available at www.buchi.com.

Büchi is a privately held company in the eastern part of Switzerland. It had been founded 1939 as a glass blowing workshop and high-tech glass instruments for the use in chemical laboratories are still one of the core competencies of Büchi. However the product portfolio is much wider in the meantime.

International Workshop on Physics & Technology of Thin Films
(IWTF2003)
February 22nd – March 6th 2003
Sharif University of Technology
Tehran, Iran.

The workshop is supported by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy and the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Application (IUVSTA).

Thin Film science and technology plays an important role in the high-tech industries specially in microelectronics and optoelectronics. To promote this growing field in the developing countries, the International Scientific Meetings Office (ISMO) in collaboration with Sharif University of Technology (SUT) is organizing an international workshop on physics and technology of thin films that will be held from 22 February to 6 March 2003 in Tehran, Iran. The workshop aims at exposing fields of thin films based on new materials, properties and processes. The lectures will cover the basic principles and applications of thin films with emphasis on the importance of Thin Films and Sensors in the new technologies.
