The Infrared and Raman Discussion Group

The Infrared and Raman Discussion Group, usually referred to as the IRDG, was formed in 1950 and is one of the oldest independent spectroscopy groups in the UK. It is the national organisation which caters for all who are interested in the theory, practice and teaching of infrared and Raman spectroscopy. Members of the group come from industry, government and academic institutions.

Organisation

The IRDG has charitable status as recognised by the UK Charity Commission (Registered Charity No 1153832). Our constitution dictates that we have at minimum a 10 person committee, all of whom are trustees of the charity, comprising four named posts (Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Secretary) and six or more ordinary members. The current incumbents can be found on the Committee page

History

This section has been compiled largely from research by Professor Mike George together with the memory and files of Professor Bill George. Significant contributions have also been made from IRDG members past and present. Where possible links are in place to copies of original documents, however there are gaps and omissions. If anyone has further information or can supply documentation we would be grateful to receive it, no matter how large or small.
