IRDG 219 – Christmas 2017 Meeting

General registration for the 2017 Christmas Meeting (IRDG 219) is now open.

Please find below the details and a link to the registration form for the Christmas 2017 meeting, to be held at UCL on Thursday 21st December. To reserve your place, please complete and return the form to Chris Stapleton. The form can either be filled in electronically using Adobe Reader software, saved and then returned as an attachment (via email to meetings@irdg.org) or printed out, filled in by hand and returned either by scanning and attaching to an email or by putting it in the post to Chris’s address which is on the form. No registrations will be accepted without a completed form but up to 6 people can be registered on a single form where only a single payment will be made.

As we only have space for a limited number of delegates (120 max this year, down from 140 last year), you are encouraged to register as soon as possible. IRDG members have had a two week priority registration period and only 7 places now remain.

On the form you will need to select your payment method. We will be accepting a bank transfer, a cheque or an online payment through the IRDG website using either a PayPal account or a credit/debit card. Once your registration form has been received and processed, you will be sent an email to confirm your place(s) and give full details of how to pay.

Anyone wishing to present a poster at the meeting should indicate this on the form so that we can make sure we have the correct number of poster boards available.

Anyone requiring a vegetarian meal should indicate this on the form so that the UCL caterers know how many meals to produce.

Just to reiterate, in the last few years we have been fully booked and have had to turn people away so don’t delay registering.

The registration form can be obtained here:

Details for the meeting are also available on the IRDG website at:
http://www.irdg.org/meetings/future-meetings/irdg-219/

All responses and enquiries about this meeting should be sent to Chris Stapleton at meetings@irdg.org. Subject to places still being available, registration will continue until Thursday 14th December.

EPSRC Roadmap on Optical Spectroscopy

The IRDG were asked to be involved in gathering information on the current use of Raman and IR instrumentation in the UK (both academically and industrially) by the EPSRC. The IRDG have been asked to host the draft Roadmap document on its website for comment by the vibrational spectroscopy community and this can be accessed via the following link:

EPSRC Roadmap Final

The aim of this survey was to produce a picture of the optical spectroscopy landscape within the UK research sector both academically and industrially. This covered all levels of instrumentation capability from high end to hand held portable systems. The data from the survey has now been analysed and will be presented to the EPSRC as part of their roadmapping exercise to better understand the future needs for investment in cutting-edge and underpinning equipment to support world-leading physical science and engineering in the UK.

However, before final submission, we are now inviting comments on this document via the following weblink (http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/I4B80/) or using the form at the bottom of this post.

We welcome comments and feedback on the document from the community. The deadline for responses is 15th January 2016.

Best wishes

Karen Faulds
